Honest Energy™

Brewed cacao contains theobromine, a naturally occurring stimulant found in cacao that can be more pleasant than caffeine. Unlike caffeine – which is harsh with a spike and following crash – theobromine works with your body, not against it, giving you a mild, long-lasting lift without making you feel nervous or jittery.

Ghana Cacao Bean Origin

Volta River, Ghana.  Winding throughout the country, the Volta River gives shape to the lovely landscape of Ghana. The surrounding agricultural area is dotted with small, family-owned farms that produce the very best African cacao for Crio Bru. The dark, earthy-toned beans are carefully selected to enhance the full-bodied chocolate flavor, with hints of coconut and cinnamon.

Nicaragua Cacao Bean Origin

Managua, Nicaragua. For the past few years, we have been working with one of the leading cacao purveyors from Nicaragua. We are ecstatic to be able to bring you this new variety that showcases the exceptional quality they are able to provide.
There are many wonderful cacao varieties in Nicaragua for making chocolate but we have selected this particular one for its amazing flavor when brewed.

Delightfully compelling

I'm a coffee drinker, and while this won't be replacing my coffee, after trying the starter bags it's definitely something I want to keep around. It really gives you all of the complexities and flavors that are sometimes lost in chocolate, and is remarkably different from something like hot chocolate in a very pleasing way. You get the very nice natural little bit of minerality of cacao, and all of the richness and fruitiness you might associate with really good chocolate. I was also surprised by how sippable the Ghana dark roast is; I prefer light and medium roasts for my coffee because I find many dark roasts lose some of their flavor and become very bitter, but the Ghana dark roast wasn't like that at all. It is somewhat more bitter than the Nicaragua, it isn't overpowering, and I personally find it to be a very pleasant bitterness because the dark roasting here has not reduced the flavor of the beans as often happens with coffee. I think a person who really enjoys good quality chocolate for the complexity, or someone who really loves wine, would be likely to thoroughly enjoy this. It is very different from coffee, and ultimately I enjoyed it more because of it.

Hooked

My only complaint is the grind is very inconsistent, so there is always a lot of "dirt" that slips through the french press. Wish I could get whole beans. May have to switch to pour over.

I'm hooked on the flavor, though. It smells like chocolate, but the flavor has its own thing going that's different from hot cocoa, coffee, or tea.

Try mixing half dark and half light. Flavor explosion!

Love this!!!

I was seeing this on my FB ffed and decided to try it. I'm glad I did!

I love the smell of chocolate when brewing. I love the light roast for a more "milk" chocolate taste and the dark roast tastes like dark chocolate! I use a sweetener to bring out the chocolate flavor. I also make a dalgona coffee to add to my chocolate when i feel like having some fun with my drink!

amazing

flavor of the light roast Ghana is very pleasant. I like mine with half and half, and several drops of splenda. It is a much more delicate flavor than a brick to the face of jaw wrenching sweet because I can adjust the sweetening. It has the lightest tick of bitter in the finish but nothing at all as strong as the bitter of an alkali process cocoa powder which is a flavor that comes out if you make hot cocoa the traditional way from cocoa powder on a stove. Not having to make hot cocoa on the stove is very convenient, and we have a separate gold foil basket we use, though we also have a chemex that I am tempted to try as well.
